Our Membership
Our members, or “sites”, are medical institutions equipped to perform clinical trials in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and motor neuron diseases. Despite our name, The Northeast ALS Consortium (NEALS) is an international group with over 100 member sites in North America, Ireland, and Israel. Each member site is required to:
-
Have a lead investigator (researcher) who is responsible for the NEALS research activities at his/her institution.
-
Have an out-patient clinic dedicated to caring for patients with ALS and motor neuron diseases.
-
Be certified in NEALS outcome measures used to evaluate the results of clinical research.

Our Leadership
NEALS is governed by an Executive Committee made up of eleven members. Each member brings a depth of experience and a unique perspective to the governance of NEALS. Our research activities are also advised by an experienced Scientific Advisory Board. Learn more about our leadership:

Coordinating Centers
NEALS research and training activities are managed from our two “Coordinating Centers” located at Massachusetts General Hospital>> and SUNY Upstate Medical University>>. The Coordinating Centers are responsible for the management and conduct of NEALS-affiliated trials.

What does it mean to be a “NEALS-affiliated” trial?
When a trial is considered NEALS-affiliated, it means that the sponsor of the trial has contracted NEALS Coordinating Centers to help conduct the trial. A sponsor may contract NEALS to manage an entire trial or just a portion of the work. |
